Exploring number puzzles.

Emphasising mental skills and strategies the maths shows & workshops  aim to enthuse, motivate and develop children's confidence in Mathematics.  Gerry Walker BSc PGCE is an experienced primary teacher/maths coordinator & children's entertainer  He has combined these skills to provide an innovative presentation. A maths show or workshop is ideal for a focused maths week making it  fun too

Can we find the pattern?

LARGE GROUP SHOW.  The interactive maths show  is activity based with novel colourful props, puzzles, tricks etc using money, cards, Rubik cubes & is ideal for several classes at one session.
The K.S.1 Show includes a time telling Teddy Bear and a pop up rabbit that eats odd numbers. Magic tricks are used to explore concepts of pattern, 2D & 3D shape, counting in 2s, 5s, & 10s, subtraction by counting on, estimating, place etc. A fun  maths show for KS1 pupils.
Foundation looks at counting, sorting, ordering, shape, more than/less than, long/longer etc.
K.S.2  Shows. Separate presentations for upper and lower juniors explore  number,, probability, fractions, money  as seen through the eyes of a magician. Tables, partitioning, subtraction by appropriate method ( counting on/decomposition), mean, 2D & D Shape, problem solving are amongst concepts explored in an entertaining show. Material chosen in consultation with staff.

SINGLE CLASS WORKSHOPS. Working in the classroom the maths workshops provide hands on investigations discovering magic trick secrets, solving puzzles, unusual games and exploring patterns. Number, shape, mental strategies, money, the workshops can be selected to suit your current needs and the children's ages and abilities. The children will enjoy the investigations and want to do more so naturally there are lots of follow up

Looking at Subtraction
techniques in a novel way.

Before and during the performance Gerry asked what was being taught and previous leaning making the material very relevant. fantastic. Every single child enjoyed our visit from Gerry, the maths magician.........Fairford Primary, Gloucestershire..
