DURATION Gerry can spend the whole day in your school presenting several maths workshops or or maths entertainment & educational shows for all ages.		   Emphasising mental skills and strategies the Magic maths workshops and presentations aim to enthuse and motivate children in Mathematics, develop their confidence and make it fun too.
Presenter Gerry Walker BSc PGCE is an experienced primary teacher/maths coordinator and children's entertainer and magician. He has combined these skills to provide an innovative presentation. A maths show or workshop is ideal for a focused maths week.		   totally engrossed in the maths show  
  a maths investigation  

  • SINGLE CLASS  Working in the classroom the Maths Workshops provide Hands on Investigative activities in discovering magic trick secrets, solving  puzzles, unusual games and exploring patterns.

  • Number, shape, probability, mental strategies…the maths workshop can be selected to meet YOUR current needs and, of course, the ages and abilities of the children. The  children enjoy the investigations and will want to do more so naturally there are lots of follow up ideas.

 

  

  • DETAILS    Four sessions per day. (40mins rec/nursery).

  • Mix and Match workshops/large group.

  • No sales.  FREE follow up ideas.

 

  
STAFF MEETINGS
Gerry can provide an after school follow up session for teachers, full of practical ideas for investigative maths. He is also available as a provider for day courses.		  

  • LARGE GROUP  This is ideal for several classes at one entertainment presentation. The interactive Maths Show is activity based with novel colourful props, puzzles, tricks etc using money, cards, inside out boxes, Rubik cubes etc.

  • The K.S.1 show includes a time telling Teddy Bear, a pop up rabbit that eats odd numbers, number bonds with a magic wand and subtraction where the actual number climbs out of the board.

  • Separate presentations for upper and lower juniors explore concepts of number, space & shape, probability, fractions as seen through the eyes of a magician.

The Magic of Mathematics workshops and shows have been presented in London, Kent, Monmouthshire, Manchester, Birmingham, Hereford, Mid and South Glamorgan, Avon, Taunton, Hemel Hempstead, Swindon, Swansea, Cardiff, Llanelli, Crewe, Cheshire, Powys, Warwickshire, Banbury, Cotswolds, Bristol and many others.
 In the Autumn visits are planned to Plymouth, Epsom and Harrow to name but a few, plus a teacher training day on a return visit to Banbury. We are also grateful to Techniquest for sponsorship for Maths Week in Wales in October for the third year.		 studying shape
